Sylvia LaFontaine
Founding & Managing Partner
Ms. LaFontaine is a lawyer, social justice advocate, mediator, and consultant for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion literacy. Sylvia is an alum of the progressive University of Windsor’s Law School (class of 1996) where Sylvia established the first Aboriginal Legal Aid Clinic in southwestern Ontario. Since that time, she has worked as an Investigator for the Human Rights Commission and Director of Healing and Wellness for the Metis Nation of Ontario.
Being a tireless advocate for personal and community wellness, during her time in the Southwest she established Hero’s Hangout: a resource and recreation center for Veterans and their families. Sylvia is an active member of the Hamilton Law Association, the Law Society of Ontario, a proud Rotarian as well as a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women.
Her current passion and interests focus on the prevention and treatment of dementia, organizational EDI maturity, and developing safe and accessible community spaces for 2SLGBTQ individuals. As such, Sylvia currently serves as the Chair of the Stonewall Community Centre Steering Committee with the aim of creating a safe and inclusive space in Hamilton and the surrounding area.
In her spare time, she loves to go hiking with her active 8-year-old terrier, Ginger, and play in her garden.
Ting Lu
Legal Professional
Ting Lu is a legal professional with over a decade of experience in both China and Canada. Her diverse background in China spans primary and secondary markets and private equity investment fund companies, with expertise in government guide fund management, corporate equity investment, private equity fund operation management, and financial services related to investment and financing. Since 2019, Ting has been practising independently, developing her ability to plan and manage cases, draft legal documents, and navigate litigation complexities.
Currently advancing her legal expertise in Canada, Ting is pursuing her National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) Lawyer Licensing through Hamilton Legal Group and has completed her LLM in Canadian Common Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, specializing in administrative law and commercial matters. She also contributes to her community through volunteer work, enhancing patient experiences and supporting community initiatives.
Fluent in both Mandarin and English, Ting brings a global perspective and a disciplined work ethic to her role. Her resilience, adaptability, and commitment to legal excellence make her a valuable asset to our team.
